A study suggests that England is set for more record-breaking warm years like 2014, which was UK's warmest since records began in 1910
Scientists say the probability of warm Summers is 13 times more likely due to human influences on the climate. Well—we knew that. Let's hope we work with other countries around the world to change that likelihood.
The research, compiled by the University of Melbourne and published in Environmental Research.
The data is based on climate models and temperature records for England dating back to 1659.
Yay for Australia, the land of my birth, and also for Melbourne where I grew up in the 1950s, which isn't so far back in history.
I remember once my mother told me the year of her birth—1914. I laughed, thinking she was joking. She assured me she wasn't. How crass I must have been, without a brain in my head to work out the year of her birth. Youngsters think the world began with them, whereas it was their existence that commenced.
Anyway, back to the subject. I'm ready for warmer days. It's not just because England is emerging from Winter that makes me say this. I love the warmth, having immigrated from a warmer country. I look forward to shedding clothes, with no need to shiver beside a fire. Yes, we have one, although the flames licking over coals are fueled by gas

Our home—a small ground floor flat with gardens front and back—faces west. But the afternoon rays of the sun don't heat the windows to an unbearable temperature because of the wonderful giant horse chestnut trees growing right along the narrow road opposite. Also, trees beside the windows in our own garden give shelter. Whereas our neighbors homes overheat, ours stays cool. I look forward to opening the windows in the cool of the morning, and then closing them when the air heats during the main part of the long day. Here in England's Summer, dark doesn't arrive until about ten o'clock at night. I feel as if I'll emerge from hibernation to enjoy more quality time.
But without Winter's drop in temperature, we wouldn't appreciate the Summer. How wonderful of Mother Nature to give us balance.
Do you like Summer's heat?
