What do you regret most in your life?

A new study from UBS shows that millionaires have the most regrets about their loved ones.

The survey asked more than 2,000 American millionaires what their biggest regret in life was. Here are the results in full:

1) A mistake in a relationship with my family (23 per cent)

2) Not spending more time with my family (17 per cent)

3) Not taking enough chances (15 per cent)

4) Not taking care of my health (11 per cent)

5) A misstep in my career (9 per cent)

6) Focusing too much on my career (7 per cent)

Okay, we're not all millionaires. But they're just people who have succeeded in enterprise. What of the ordinary, down-to-earth people like you and me?

It's really hard to think of my own regrets during a life spanning 73 years. But, taking the points already covered, I'll see how I would have answered.

I adored my children and lived my early life completely focused on them. That's my mother holding my niece in the centre. I'm the one with long hair bending down so my little 'un wouldn't feel left out.
1) With my family, I wish I'd done things differently. When my 27 year marriage broke up, I left Australia for a new start in England. At the time my children were 28, 26 & 23. The youngest was a model traveling overseas, but the other two lived in Australia. Within a year my eldest son had died. The next daughter in age became ill with leukemia and died twenty years later. I'm estranged from my third child who now resides in the land of her birth close to her father.

2) Therefore, I didn't spend enough time with them when I left.

Now, 25 years later, I wonder if things would have been different had I stayed and spent more time with them. Of course, I couldn't because they were spread out all around the huge country. Finances wouldn't have allowed me to travel for visits.

Apart from that, I met and married my present husband in England. We've lived 25 happy years together, traveled the world and are now supporting each other in our old age.

3) I took plenty of chances.

4) I took care of my health.

5) I never had a career, but I started working when I reached England.

6) Never focused on my career though.

How about you? Any regrets?

I didn't have the best relationship with my father and a lot of it was my doing; he died 29 years ago. I wish there was some way to undo a couple of things I did that must have hurt him deeply, but he never showed it. He took good care of me after my mother died.

Thanks for sharing this. It reminds me to put loved ones first before career and other less important things. Sorry to hear about your children. Now that you realize it, you can make steps to make things better. All the best!

I could find it really easy to wallow in regrets - particularly ones related to not taking better care of myself - but I can't let myself go there too often. Better to keep moving forward.

well we all have regrets but then - I believe that everything is ordained and we are just taken to the path we eventually go down.

HI Francene, I regret nothing. I believe in faith and destiny. I am very well aware that the situation I am into now, is due to my choices. Am peace with it.

No wonder to read the first two points in the survey result. That's the way we work, most of the times we strive hard for our livelihood placing the family and relations as secondary. And when we realize the fact, at times, its abit too late. Wonderful read for sure..a bit sad to read about your children but the fact in the end you found your soulmate, ended the post on a perfect note. May Baba bless you both with many more years of togetherness and love !!!
